Kassel

And so our driving tour continued to the city of Kassel...

Kassel suffered severe damage during WWII and was rebuilt in 1950s style. While driving through the city, we spotted many electric poles beautified by vines...

After driving to the outskirts of Kassel, we visited Wilhelmshohe Park. It was vast and beautiful forest/park- filled with trails that we could've spent an entire day exploring.

Schloss Wilhelmshohe

At the top of this long hill is the Octagon (topped with a statue of Hercules), currently being renovated. As you can see from this picture, the water was pretty stagnant- a mosquito's paradise.

The rest of these pictures were taken while ascending the hill...

Castle Ruins...

The picture of this bridge does not even come close do doing the actual view justice. This bridge, with the stone crags below, is one of the most magical things I've seen. It's easy to see how the Brothers Grimm were inspired to write their famous fairytales in this part of Germany.

Another view of the bridge...

This was the end to our Memorial Day Weekend tour. And the best part is that we still had all day Monday to clean and catch up on work around the house! We hope you all had a wonderful Memorial Day as well.
