In Auckland we did not stay in the city, but across the bay in Takapuna. It gave us this view of the city. Our overwhelming impression was that Auckland is a very livable place.
On our second day in Auckland, we had lunch at La Cigale French Market, a local hippie market in an semi-industrial part of town. We walked from downtown, about 20 minutes. It was the roughest part of Auckland, yet comically safe.
The Parnell Rose Garden was near the market.
The inlet area of Devonshire, located near Takapuna. Devonshire was like an old, New England beach town.
We tried a Ginger Beer randomly at a cafe and it was delicious. I (Matt) had one each time we got off the ship in New Zealand.
The old St. Mary's church, adjacent to Holy Trinity Cathedral in Parnell. This is considred one of the finest of all wooden churches in New Zealand, with impressive timber construction inside.
Princes Wharf. This is where we boarded our cruise ship, the ms Volendam. Not princess (the lady version), princes.
