Hello to everyone back in the US! We arrived safely in Deutschland on August 5, 2007 at 6:15 AM. With several hours to pass until we were able to check into our hotel room, we drove from Frankfurt to Darmstadt and visited the Burg Frankenstein (below). This "Burg" or Castle, inspiration for Mary Shelley's
Frankenstein, is located in a wooded Naturpark with extensive hiking/biking trails. The Burg Frankenstein overlooks Darmstadt and surrounding areas.
We also walked around the Luisenplatz (below), which is basically the name for the central area of shops and cafes in Darmstadt, and also had breakfast at a small bakery.
We have already had several reminders of home...corn fields lined a small portion of the road from Frankfurt to Darmstadt and on our walk around the city, we spotted some familiar antiques in an American Diner!
